Fish oil has long been a supplement that is geared as one of the best things that a person can take, no matter their age. There are several health benefits to fish oil and all of these benefits are something that most every woman out there is looking for. As a woman who takes fish oil, I can see many health benefits, and it has made me a firm believer in fish oil.
As a long time sufferer of dry skin that itched and was red, I find now that my skin simply looks healthier and has more oils in it, which has greatly diminished the dry and itchy skin. I can say without a doubt that fish oil worked better for me than the most expensive dry skin lotions on the market.
Helps with Depression
There are not many people who can say that they have never felt depressed, luckily fish oil can have a hand in helping to deal with this depression. Though I would not say I was severely depressed, I did have my moments. After being on a steady supplement of fish oil, I have found that my depression symptoms have gone.
Helps with Focus
There are several studies out there who state that those with ADHD benefit the most from fish oil. I do not have ADHD, but I do find that my focus is much better. I can get the things I need to get done without getting sidetracked.
Helps with Inflammation
After working out, I would have sore muscles and this would almost be enough for me to avoid the workout for a couple of days. However, fish oil helps with inflammation by helping to reduce this and prevent it. Now, I can workout and not feel it as much. Plus, with a few joint problems I have, the inflammation has greatly decreased, which has led to less pain.
Treatment of Ulcers
I have always had ulcer issues since I was a teenager, but with the fish oil, I found that the ulcers became less and can say that I have not had one for months now. Despite that I have been under stress and this often results in an ulcer for me.
These are the personal benefits that I have found, though there are sure to be more that I see later in life. Studies have been done on fish oil for years, and there are several other benefits that scientists and the medical world in general are pointing out to those who are considering using fish oil, that may be of interest to you. These benefits include:
- Lessens postpartum depression and still allows a mother to nurse her baby
- Helps with Alzheimer's disease and lessens how this is affecting the person
- Reduces the risk of heart disease and some forms of breast cancer
- Helps in weight loss
- For babies and children, it can help to improve their focus, help with brain development and ensure eye health
- Helps to lower cholesterol
- Helps to protect against having a stroke
The good news is that adding a fish oil supplement to your diet is easy. It does not taste, so you don't have to worry about that fishy taste that many people are strongly against. In addition, there have not been any side effects that studies have reported on, meaning that it is safe to take with just about any other type of medication that you may take. Just as you take a multi-vitamin, fish oil should be right there in your medicine cabinet as a way to help your health and maybe even prolong your life.

When it comes to sweets, there are all types of recipes out there. However, I have to say that the best I have ever found was handed down through the family from woman to woman, though I cannot say just where the original origins of this recipe takes place. What I can say is that almost everyone who has had this cake, almost loves it, as long as they are chocolate fans.
The cake is often referred to as the 'Cola Cake', the 'Coke Cake' or in my family, it is referred to as the 'Moist, Chocolate Cake'. Whatever, you name it, it is definitely to be a pleaser at your next family gathering or simply as a sweet treat after dinner.
A few words of caution:
- If you put the ingredients together in the wrong order, it will affect how the cake turns out
- Always use a rectangle pan for this cake as it is too moist to go into bundt pans or even cupcake holders
- There is a lot of sugar and butter in the cake, so warn those who may have health issues to take it easy on this cake
There are a couple parts to this recipe, so it is best to go through part by part to make it, in order to ensure that you get this right. The first part:
Mix all of your dry ingredients together in a large bowl, as you will add to this later. The dry ingredients are:
- 2 cups of all plain all purpose flour
- 2 cups white sugar
- 1 1/2 cups of small white marshmallows
The second part is combining the ingredients that you will bring to a boil on the stove. This includes:
- 1 stick of butter
- 1/2 cup of vegetable oil
- 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder (Hershey's works well)
- 1 cup of Coca Cola or similar brand
You will want to bring this to a boil, be sure to stir frequently so that the ingredients mix well.
While the second part of the recipe is cooking, it is time to take a small bowl for the third part of this recipe:
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda
Mix the soda into the buttermilk and let the soda dissolve.
Now that you have all bowls with their respective ingredients, it is time to add the chocolate cola mixture to the flour and mix well. After this has throughly been mixed, add in the buttermilk bowl. Mix this until it is all combined together nicely. The last step of this is to add:
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Mix all these ingredients into the bowl and be ready to pour into your pan. It is best to grease the pan for the best results. Add this into the pan and cook at 350 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes or until the middle is solid.
While this cake is fresh out of the oven, you need to add the icing, which has its own recipe, but is the crowning feature of this cake. The icing needs to be boiled on the stove, so do this around ten minutes before the cake is ready to come out of the oven. The icing recipe is:
- 16 ounces of powdered sugar
- 1 stick of butter
- 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder
- 6 tablespoons of coca-cola
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
The end result is going to be a chocolate cake that has the consistency of a nice fudge brownie. Most people are going to brag about this being one of the best chocolate cakes that they have ever had. Though it does involve a few steps, once you know what you are doing this cake is fairly simple with great results.
Movies are great forms of entertainment, however, there have been those movies that have astounded me, while others have left me wanting my money back. If you are like me, you may not find time to get to the theatre that much, thus you wait until these are released to DVD or start showing on the movie channels via cable or satellite. The last movie I watched and actually sat down to watch was "Beautiful Creatures". For those who are not familiar with this movie, it was originally a book, that did fairly well on the market, thus rights were purchased to make this into a movie. The movie itself, for those who read the book, was a bit of a let down. Not surprisingly, there has yet to be any news about a sequel, even though the series contains four books.
Just a small introduction about this movie, the main characters are Ethan Wate and Lena Duchannes. As with almost every movie out there right now, there is a supernatural elements to the storyline. Ethan is a mere mortal, while Lena is a caster, otherwise a witch. Their love is forbidden due to casters not being allowed to love mortals, yet this does not stop young Ethan and Lena. Lena is about to turn 16 years of age, in which female casters learn if they are destined for the dark or the light. Ethan is determined to keep her in the light, as well as Lena's uncle. In the end, Lena and Ethan are not together, as Lena takes away his memories of her in order to allow him to live a life that is free of castor magic. Surprisingly, Lena does not turn dark or light as her uncle sacrifices himself to end the curse on the females in the Duchannes family who turn dark. Hence, Lena has a bit of both dark and light in her.
There were a few issues I had right off with the movie. One, though this takes place in South Carolina, the accents of the main character Ethan Wate, was a bit far fetched. In addition, the movie turned the small town into Bible totting, Civil War reenacting, apple pie eating conservatives. Not everyone in the South attends Civil War reenactments nor are die hard conservatives. The stereotype in the movie have been well played out, and at this point seem to be nothing more than a put down to Southern people.
Secondly, the movie did not closely follow the book, though they are the same in name. I believe this was one of the biggest problems that people who watched this movie had. The movie did end with an opening that allowed for a sequel, as the book, but the comparison between the two ends at about the basic storyline and names of characters.
The digital effects within the movie were decent, as there was witchcraft going on and in some scenes, the producers and designers on the movie really made this come to life. The costumes the kids wore was believable and the town in which this was shot definitely helped to build upon the southern stereotypes.
Would I recommend this to others? Probably, especially if they have read the book, but I would warn them to be ready for the dreadful accents that are going to be heard, along with mediocre acting. However, it was interesting and it was a great way to rewind after a hard day of work. Would I watch it repeatedly...probably not and the movie is definitely not going to be on my long or short list of favorites.

That time of month can be painful, embarrassing and above all else, it is simply tiresome. Every woman deals with it at some point in her life, and there are times in which menstruation can be absolutely painful. I have had times in which the pain is so intense that I simply could not do anything other than sit there in pain. However, after a few times of dealing with such painful menstruation, I found several ways to help ease the pain that almost every woman is going to benefit from, even if her pain is not intense but just annoying.
What to Do
There are several things you can do for pain during your menstruation time:
- Exercise, and though you may not feel like exercising, those cramps and pain will greatly benefit from the exercise. You will find that a few minutes of exercise can help to stop the cramping and other pain that you are having.
- Hot water bottle on your abdomen near the side in which you feel the most pain is going to help to lessen the pain. It usually does not stop the pain altogether, but it does help to cope with it much better.
- Take some sort of pain medication or medication designed specifically for menstruation, though be careful with those meds that contain caffeine as this can make things worse.
- Drink some hot water with lemon as this can help with the bloating pain you may be feeling, plus hydrating always helps with any bodily problem you may have
- Taking a nap always helps out in some way, but when you having pain it is a great way to give your body a rest, that is if you can find the time to take a nap
- A warm bath or shower can also help to ease the pain of menstruation as this helps to loosen up the muscles in the body
What Not To Do
There are several things that many women try, but in many cases, it can make the pain worse:
- Drinking more caffeine has been proven as a way to make your menstruation pain even worse
- Taking water pills to help with water retention can help the bloating you feel, but this does nothing for the pain
- Do not eat a lot of sweets or carbs as this can make the pain ten times worse
- Do not drink alcohol in hopes this will help the pain as this can make the pain worse in the long run
When to See a Doctor
There have been times in which menstrual pain is so bad that it does warrant a visit to the doctor. At one point in time, the pain was so bad, I knew something had to be wrong and it turns out that I had an ovarian cyst that had ruptured. Of course, there was nothing to be done about this but to tough it out, but it is always best to know if there is an underlying issue for all the pain that you are feeling. You should go to the doctor if you notice:
- The pain becomes worse or does not respond to the techniques mentioned beforehand
- You have fever or vomiting associated with the pain as this could be another issue
- The pain is lasting for longer than your menstrual period
There are several people who never experience more than a cramp or two along with a backache during their period, but the majority of women will at some point have pain that is much harder to tolerate. The key is to control the pain as best as you can and help to alleviate this pain in ways that is going to allow you to function in life.
Having a vacation is nice, as most people will say it is a great way to unwind and just enjoy life. The last trip I took was to the country music heartland, Tennessee. In particular, I visited Gatlinburg, as this is a huge tourist location, while offering some great scenery if you go out and rent a cabin up in the mountains. Though, many do not realize this, Gatlinburg is full of things to do while here that are both aimed at singles and families.
While in Gatlinburg, I did a number of things. I would highly recommend that everyone ride on the lift that is going to give you a great view of the Smokey Mountains. When I went, it was rather crowded, but as stated before, this is a tourist location, and I did go in the heart of the summer. Thus, be prepared to wait in line. I spent around forty minutes in line for the ride, but the pictures I was able to take from the ride, was well worth the time it took to get there.
There are tons of attractions, especially the Ripley attractions, which are great for families. In fact, I seen many families going to this area specifically for these attractions. Tickets can be rather expensive for what you are getting, so I recommend knowing what you want to see and not making the mistake of getting a bundle as some things are not interesting at all.
Aside from these attractions, there are tons of shopping. Everything from name brand stores, to small boutiques, it is all here. I found some great items, but I did pay a hefty price due to the location of where I was buying. If you are looking for tourist memorabilia of Tennessee, then Gatlinburg is the place to get this.
Nightlife in Gatlinburg is exciting and fun. There are several little bars that are open from around two in the afternoon until the wee hours of the morning. Here, you can hear live bands, radio, and meet tons of people from all over the US. However, be forwarned, the drinks are expensive! For what you are getting, you may find it cheaper to avoid these bars altogether.
A few things that I absolutely hated about the area:
- Severely crowded on the sidewalks due to the area being so tourist centered
- Do not think about driving within Gatlinburg, you can get there faster walking, and the walking can be exhausting due to the up and down of the entire town
- Long waits for just about everything, including restaurants
What I loved the most:
- The variety of things to do
- The view from my hotel that looked out on the mountains
- Friendly staff just about everywhere I went
Just outside of Gatlinburg, but often included with Gatlinburg is the Dixie Stampede, a dinner and show that is produced by Dolly Parton. It is very expensive, but if you go to Gatlinburg, this is something that you have to see. It is a North versus South ideal, in which you get to choose which side you are on, and the show dictates who wins that time. The show itself has tons of talented people who ride horses, doing tricks and the like. The food was downhome country cooking, and was absolutely delicious.
Overall, if you are going to be in the Tennessee area or are looking to visit, I highly suggest Gatlinburg, Tennessee. There are tons of things to do and see, and you will enjoy seeing this part of the country and all it has to offer.
